How Do You Know You Need A Case Management Upgrade?

Two signs that it’s finally time for a change.

board-978179_1280 (2)The prospect of switching out case management software — particularly transferring massive law firm datasets — can seem daunting.

And, yes, it’s not an easy process.

But it’s also not an impossible one — and it’s far superior to the alternative of sticking with an unhelpful platform.

So how do you know when it’s time to bite the bullet and make a change?

Here are two signs, according to panelists on a recent episode of the Non-Eventcast.

Sign No. 1: You’re Throwing Your Mouse

Sometimes, software simply doesn’t meet your needs.

It can be too slow. It can be too expensive. It can be a poor fit for your workflow.

“I think it’s [time to change] when you start throwing your mouse,” says Donna Brown of Beyond Square One, a data transfer expert who has helped a number of law firms move off of one software and onto another.

“I think the frustration moment is when you’re like: ‘Why am I frustrated all the time with my software? Why am I giving this a second thought?’”

Sign No. 2: Your Proverbial Basement Is Flooding

The decision to change your law practice management software is like the decision to move to a new home, says Jared Correia, the Non-Eventcast host.

For example, he says, his kitchen is missing a door to the pull-out trash receptacle. It’s a problem that’s annoying, but it’s not one that will prompt him to move houses.

But, he asks, what if your house is on a slope, and your basement floods repeatedly? That’s a different story.

Jared thinks of software in a similar way.

“If you have these things you hate about your existing software — there’s no perfect software — that are really sticking in your craw, and you can’t get past it, and your workflows are really hard because of it, I think you should start looking for something else,” he says.

In this episode of the Non-Eventcast, Jared, Donna, and Profitsolv’s Joyce Brafford dig into all things software Switcheroo — from the decision to switch to ensuring a new rollout is a success.

This is the eighth episode in a special podcast series hosted in conjunction with our partner, ProfitSolv.
