This seems like a year where maybe big firms hold onto it, reserve their judgment, and reevaluate year-end bonuses. The bonuses last year were the same as the several years before that, so maybe this is the year they decide to do more, in that respect.

— Michelle Fivel, a recruiter and co-founder of Hatch Henderson Fivel, in comments given to the American Lawyer, on the likelihood that Biglaw firms will fall in line with the summer bonuses announced by boutique firms Hueston Hennigan and McKool Smith. Of Biglaw associates’ summer bonus prospects generally, Fivel said, “My thought is that the big firms are not going to wholesale jump into this trend.”
