DocStyle

Returning to the events circuit for the first time since the pandemic began, DocStyle will be exhibiting this year at the 2022 ALA Annual Conference & Expo alongside Worldox. Meet with us May 15th – 18th at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida as we share our vision for the future.

On Friday, April 1st we’re releasing a major update to DocStyle, that will significantly expand on the functionality of both our Defined Terms and Cross-Referencing feature-sets.

At first, checking for definitions within a document was all about presenting information to the users. What we’ve learned is that having the flexibility to navigate definitions while preserving your working location inside the document is critical. Applying the same knowledge, we redesigned and enhanced Cross-Referencing as well, for a better interaction with the document.

With the ability to style paragraphs automatically at its core, DocStyle delivers a complete Cross-Referencing and Defined Terms experience, all in one solution.

Expanding on our commitment to support the drafting and review process, NOVO Compare and PuR MetaData from Evolution Software can be purchased directly from DocStyle. We’re proud to offer document comparison and metadata removal tools, expanding our document review capabilities.

LawVu

LawVu is continuing to make waves with their legal workspace. They’ve recently released content about the importance of having contracts linking to matters.

At its core, a contract signifies a relationship between two parties. Therefore, for a contractual relationship to be successful, there needs to be some understanding of the relationship beyond what’s written on the page. The way to access this knowledge is by having all the important details of a contract readily available and connected to the contract. The most effective way to achieve this is by implementing a platform that is home to a matter management solution and a contract management solution. To learn more, visit their blog here

LawVu has also announced this month that it has been named “Overall LegalTech Marketplace of the Year” in the second annual LegalTech Breakthrough Awards.

They’re also providing an opportunity on the 2nd of December to learn about how to leverage data to more effectively partner with your business. During the webinar you’ll also learn about the importance of having one system of record for reporting and how to showcase your team’s value to the wider business. MyCase

On November 9, 2021, MyCase kicked off their inaugural Customer Conference, where they made a number of pivotal announcements and provided insight into key investments they are  making to accelerate product development and customer growth.

In his keynote address, CEO Jim McGinnis shared the news of three major acquisitions made earlier this year: Soluno (Legal Accounting), CASEpeer (Practice Management for Personal Injury Firms), and Woodpecker (Legal Document Automation). Widening MyCase’s portfolio of legal technology software solutions, these acquisitions will feed into their mission of providing lawyers with the tools they need to succeed in today’s competitive legal landscape.

MyCase Drive is a complete desktop document management experience that syncs to MyCase, allowing firms to efficiently find and organize documents using their computer’s file explorer and advanced search capabilities.

MyCase Accounting will be available in 2022. Leveraging the expertise of the Soluno team, MyCase will accelerate the development of full-featured accounting within MyCase.

Punctuating the conference, they released the MyCase 2021 Legal Industry Report. This report offers a deep dive into how the pandemic impacted law firms, and the steps lawyers took to continue to grow their firms during this unprecedented time, based on inputs from over 2,000 legal professionals.

  • How a positive client experience is more important than the legal outcome

Can you say that your law firm has a strategy in place to reach your long-term goals and vision? If not, then you’re nothing short of blindly wandering through the dark.

Business school teaches you that when you start a business (a law firm is a business by the way) one of the first things you need to do is create a business strategy. A strategy increases your chances of successfully reaching your vision and standing out against the competition.

Without a strategy, you risk blending into the crowd.

Here, we provide expert guidance on building a law firm’s long-term business strategy.

Moxtra

To understand how consumers prefer to engage with businesses and what strategy service providers need to employ, Moxtra surveyed 1,000 consumers and 200 senior-level decision makers in the healthcare, education, insurance and logistics industries.

Click here for the results, which highlight the ongoing importance of convenience to consumers, and reveal areas where businesses need to level up their technology offerings to deliver on consumer expectations.

In 1943, human psychologist Abraham Malsow introduced his now famous, and often referenced, Hierarchy of Needs. In his paper “A Theory of Human Motivation”, he detailed a theory that humans are motivated to fulfill their needs in a tiered sequence — in order to move to another level of needs, the more basic needs must be satisfied.

This concept is best illustrated as a pyramid detailing foundational/biological needs, moving up towards more psychological and social needs.

In this article, Moxtra looks at Maslow’s defined needs — Physiological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, and Self-Actualization — and how integrated mobility has become in today’s world on our collective paths to self-actualization.

iManage announced this month that leading global law firm Linklaters has selected iManage Work 10 for comprehensive, secure document and email management and collaboration. iManage is now the document and email management system of choice of all five of the prestigious “Magic Circle,” multinational, London-headquartered law firms. iManage Work 10 will replace Linklaters’ existing document management and email filing systems to deliver a single, unified platform to its 6,500 global professionals.

Linklaters selected iManage as its strategic partner following a rigorous market review and selection process. A trial that included a range of functional, integration, and performance-related criteria culminated in the adoption of iManage Work in the Cloud.

iManage announced in August the availability of its risk management products in the iManage Cloud, beginning Q4 2021. The dual offering allows organizations to leverage their preferred deployment, licensing, and maintenance model tailored to their unique business requirements. The approach also provides a streamlined migration path for organizations that want to move from on-premise to cloud-based solutions at their own pace, rather than forcing organizations to adopt change before they are ready.

SimpleLegal

SimpleLegal announced in August the addition of optical character recognition (OCR) to its document management system (DMS). The new OCR feature allows users to read and search text characters of digitized files in an image format, providing thorough document searching and easier collaboration.

Documents are critical to legal practice, and corporate legal departments must have an effective document management system to be more efficient, increase productivity and mitigate risk. SimpleLegal’s DMS is built into its legal operations software, which means matter files are easily accessible within one system. Customers can find the information they need without uploading files into multiple systems or working from incorrect document versions. The addition of the OCR functionality enables attorneys and in-house professionals to search for keywords within all digitized files, returning all-inclusive results instantly.

Wolters Kluwer

Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions published its LegalVIEW Insights report  —  the first of four quarterly reports in 2021 — analyzing emerging legal industry issues using data from its LegalVIEW Data warehouse.

Last year produced the biggest shakeup in the outside legal services market since the Great Recession as 90 percent of corporate legal departments (CLDs) reduced their active provider relationships, and 16 percent of attorney-client relationships that existed in 2019 were paused in 2020, the report found.

The inaugural report, compiled by Nathan Cemenska, Director of Legal Operations and Industry Insights for Wolters Kluwer ELM Solutions, focuses on corporate legal department (CLD) law firm vendor usage.

Due in part to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on the economy, every law firm segment was impacted.
