ATL’s Legally Themed Halloween Costume Contest: The Finalists (2023)
Who will be the winner of our fourteenth annual law-related Halloween costume competition?
Just before Halloween, we asked our readers to submit their legally themed costumes to us for our annual contest. We got a great crop of entries, and there even some creative pet costumes and costumes related to pop culture trials (and tribulations) involved this year. We think you’re going to like them a lot.
We’ve got five awesome finalists for you to choose from, and voting starts today. Who will be the winner of the fourteenth year of our competition?
Let’s start off with this strong submission that you may remember this term from your property class. These finalists are dressed as the doctrine of ancient lights.
Luxury, Lies, And A $10 Million Embezzlement
Next up, we’ve got a contestant with some learned paws. This adorable dog’s actual name is Ginsburg, so of course he’s dressed up as Ruth Barker Ginsburg. Woof!
Here we’ve got the University of South Dakota School of Law’s legal writing team dressed as Andy Warhol’s Cambell’s soup cans, complete with law-themed soup names.

Our next finalist needs no introduction — it’s the goop queen herself, Gwyneth Paltrow. If you recall from her highly publicized ski accident trial testimony earlier this year, she lost a half a day of skiing.
Last, but certainly not least, we’ve got a spectacular rendition of former acting Solicitor General/current Hogan Lovells partner Neal Katyal’s stylish Burning Man ensemble, complete with a propeller hat.
